Career Progression Pathway
From where you are now to where you want to be, all in one place
Coaching isn't about having all the answers handed to you. It's about having someone walk alongside you as you discover them for yourself. In our sessions, we'll reflect on where you are, where you want to go, and what's standing in your way — so you can move forward with confidence and purpose.
Who it's for
This is for anyone who wants to build a career in nursing. Whether you're already in the NHS and looking to progress, or you're outside the NHS and don't know how to get in.
What you need
A clear idea that you want to progress or enter the NHS, a willingness to reflect on where you are and where you want to go, and an open mind with a commitment to taking action.
From where you are to where you want to be
Maybe you're already in the NHS, working hard every day, but you feel like you've hit a wall. You know you're capable of more, a promotion, a new role, make decisions to improve patient care, but you're not sure how to get there. The opportunities exist, but no one tells you how to find them, how to ask for them, or how to position yourself for the next step.
Or maybe you're not in the NHS yet. You're a healthcare assistant, you've trained abroad, or you have a healthcare background, and you know you want to be a nurse in the NHS but you don't know the route, the steps, or who to ask.
This pathway is exactly what you need. Together, we'll figure out where you are, where you want to go, and the steps to get you there, whether that's from Nursing Associate to registered nurse, from Band 5 to leadership, or from outside the NHS to your first nursing role. Whatever your starting point, the goal is the same: a clear plan to get you where you want to be.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between coaching and mentoring?
Coaching is short-term, structured and goal-focused. It's about helping you find your own solutions to specific challenges, like preparing for an interview or building confidence in a new role. Mentoring is a longer-term relationship where a more experienced professional shares their knowledge, opens doors and guides your broader career development. In short: coaching helps you perform better; mentoring helps you grow over time.
What is career coaching? And is this classic career coaching?
Career coaching is a structured, goal-oriented process that helps you clarify your goals, explore your options, and create a plan to achieve them. At Yirwa, I go further than classic career coaching. I combine coaching with mentoring, interview preparation, and application support into one complete system, because classic career coaching isn't enough when you're navigating the NHS, facing real barriers, and dealing with unwritten rules.
What is the Career Progression Pathway?
The Career Progression Pathway is my complete coaching and mentoring system. It combines four modules into one clear pathway:
- Career Mapping: Identify your goals, assess your current position, and create a step-by-step plan.
- Mentoring: Navigate the NHS system, understand unwritten rules, and break through barriers.
- Interview Preparation: Practice real NHS questions and get immediate feedback.
- Application Support: Craft a supporting summary that gets noticed.
Why do I need mentoring, and how long does it last?
Mentoring helps you navigate the NHS system; the culture, the hierarchies, the unwritten rules, and the politics that nobody tells you about. It's especially valuable if you're new to the NHS, new to a role, or feeling stuck.
It's part of the Career Progression Pathway, but the relationship can continue beyond the package if you need ongoing support. I also offer WhatsApp support between sessions.
What happens during a coaching session?
Each session is tailored to you. We'll focus on your specific goals, whether that's interview preparation, career planning, or building confidence in your role.
How do I know which programme is right for me?
It depends on your goals. Some clients come for a single interview coaching session; others choose a package of 2, 4 or 6 sessions for deeper support.
The best way to decide is a free 20-minute call where we'll talk about your role, your goals, and what would help most.
